Burnham Area Youth Centre

Early in the summer season of 2018, we were contacted by the secretary of the BAY Centre in Burnham on Sea in regards to replacing the flooring in the main hall and canteen of the longstanding community centre.

The centre in Cassis Close was in need of a well overdue flooring replacement as the existing floor covering was beginning to show its age after being in place for over five decades. The old flooring had been in place for 53 years and was splintered, coming apart and in a very poor condition. We attended a survey at our next available opportunity to take measurements of the areas and thoroughly check the condition of the wooden subfloor. We found the subfloor did not require any repair works to be carried out and fixing of 6mm marine ply would be sufficient in order to receive the new floor covering. Working closely with the secretary of the Burnham Area Youth Centre we presented many suitable options for the new floor covering detailing the pros and cons of each. It became apparent during the early stages of deliberation that they desired most a wood effect flooring however cost was a deciding factor due to the community building being run as a charity and staffed by volunteers. After recommending Karndean Design Floorings Heavy Duty Commercial range, the staff at the BAY Centre were very keen to receive a couple full size planks of the HDC in colour HDP105 so they could visualise the product in a larger area. After the planks had been received, we received confirmation they were happy with the product and the colour and would like to proceed with our quotation once they receive adequate funding to do so. Somerset Community Foundation provided a kind grant of £3,000 to the BAY Centre which was a huge help towards the flooring project in addition to contributions from the community and anonymous donations. We received instruction the BAY Centre was now ready for the works to be carried out and dates convenient for the community centre were scheduled in. The works were completed efficiently and to our consistent high standard over a couple days, allowing the community centre to continue with its day to day activities with little disruption. The staff were thrilled with the finished result.
